This year's NAIDOC Week theme, "50 Years of Deadly", celebrated five decades of recognizing and honouring the strength, culture, achievements and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Amongst the many events around our state, Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal staff from across our office attended and supported community celebrations in Armadale, Mirrabooka and Northam. These events offered valuable opportunities for staff to engage with local community members and service organisations to listen, learn and build meaningful relationships.

We also held a NAIDOC morning tea, with staff sharing food featuring native bush flavours and taking time to learn, reflect and celebrate together. During the week, we proudly included the vibrant 2026 NAIDOC artwork by Yankunytjatjara artist Zaachariaha Fielding in our email signatures. The enthusiasm shown by staff across all activities highlighted our shared commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful workplace.

Recognising and celebrating NAIDOC Week aligns with our commitment to inclusion, equity and respect. It reminds us that building genuine relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities is essential to delivering services that are accessible, culturally safe and responsive. By supporting opportunities for connection and listening to community voices, we strengthen both our workplace and connection to the communities we serve.
